*Purpose / Objectives*
To be responsible to the Subject Manager/Assistant Subject Manager of the Film and Media and Creative and Professional Writing Subject Group for the academic leadership of BA (Hons) Media Production in the context of the School of Humanities, part of the Faculty of Arts, Design and Technology. You will provide academic leadership and direction for the course team, ensuring that the policies and procedures of the Faculty and University are implemented.

The objectives are to build on the existing strengths of the course, developing a clear vision for the future with reference to the University’s mission, particularly with regard to student experience, teaching quality and standards, flexibility in the curriculum, professional practice, industry links and internationalization of the curriculum.

The role requires an imaginative and inspirational leader, who can motivate academic staff to work together in managing the course effectively within the resources provided.

An in depth academic knowledge and understanding of the subject and its professional demands is also required, along with a commitment to teaching it in an exciting and innovative way, with the student experience as the central focus. You will be able to deliver teaching in one or more of the following area – Television Production, Radio Production, Digital Publishing.

*Principal Accountabilities*
1. To be responsible for the teaching, assessment and quality management of the course in line with University systems and procedures.

2. To be responsible for academic leadership of the staff team and for working closely with them on maintaining and enhancing student satisfaction with all aspects of the learning experience.

3. To work closely with colleagues on the Media Studies and Production programmes and, where necessary, with other partners in delivering the curriculum.

4. To undertake teaching duties as appropriate to your areas of expertise.

5. To ensure the successful delivery of the course through the effective management of resources made available including liaison with technical support staff and associate lecturers.

6. To play a leading role in the direction of the Film and Media and Creative and Professional Writing Subject Group and the School of Humanities through taking part in committees and working groups in the Faculty.

7. To show continued interest in the pedagogy of media education and ensure that this is reflected in the teaching and learning methods employed on the course.

8. To take a proactive role both internally and externally in promoting and marketing the programme.

9. To undertake research, professional practice and scholarly activity relevant to the
subject ensuring you maintain your level of subject expertise.

10. To enhance the reputation of the course by maintaining and extending professional and academic links both internally and externally, and at national and international level.

11. To undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post.

12. You will be required to work closely with: Subject Manager for Film and Media with Creative and Professional Writing and the Assistant Subject Manager, Programme Team, Faculty Curriculum Development Manager, Student Liaison Officer, Faculty Office and Technical Support staff in meeting your responsibilities. 13. To undertake any other responsibilities as required by the Subject Manager/Assistant Subject Manager, Head of School or Dean of Faculty.

· A postgraduate degree in Media or related discipline - Desirable
· A relevant teaching qualification or willingness to undertake such a qualification Desirable

This will normally be interpreted as having at least two years teaching experience in further or higher education. The expectation will be that the individual will be (or will become) a fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) or has gained (or is working towards) an award from the HEA accredited course or some other recognised teaching award acceptable to the University. You will be expected to commence this programme within your first year of appointment and successfully complete within 18 months of starting the programme.
