The University of Antwerp is seeking to fill the following full time vacancy (m/f) at the Department of Communication Studies of the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences:


Assistant, Associate or Full Professor of
Film Studies and Visual Culture

Job Description:
The assignment consists of teaching in the domain of Film Studies and Visual Culture, including at least four of the following courses at MA level: Visual Aesthetics and Analysis; Visual Narratology and Adaptation; Modern and Contemporary Film Movements; Visual Arts; Photography and Intermediality; Scriptwriting Seminar; Film Historiography Seminar. · The candidate is expected to further develop research in the domain of Film Studies and Visual Culture

· The candidate is expected to acquire and manage research funding

· The candidate is expected to supervise a substantial portion of MA dissertations

· The candidate is capable of teaching in English

· Foreign candidates are expected to teach in Dutch after a transition period of (maximum) three years, during which teaching can be conducted in English

· The candidate will in time become responsible for the scientific coordination of the program

· The candidate will represent the faculty, department and peers in boards and committees

Profile
The candidate holds a doctoral degree and has relevant research and teaching experience in the domain of Film Studies and Visual Culture The scientific and educational qualities of the candidate comply with the requirements as stipulated by the university’s policy ( http://www.ua.ac.be/main.aspx?c=.ENGLISH&n=42709 and http://www.ua.ac.be/main.aspx?c=.ENGLISH&n=25481)
The candidate has (potential) leadership skills

We offer
Either a full-time position as an assistant professor, entailing a temporary appointment in the tenure track for a period of five years. This position will lead to a permanent appointment as associate professor, if the performance is assessed favorably (on the basis of previously established and communicated criteria) Or a full-time position as a associate or full professor, generally entailing a permanent appointment. In the case of a first appointment to the corps of academic personnel (ZAP), the university board may proceed to a temporary appointment for a period not exceeding three years. This position will lead to a permanent appointment if the performance is assessed favorably.
The expected date of appointment is October 1, 2012.
