*VISITING PROFESSOR OF JOURNALISM*

*a fixed term appointment for the period 1 August 2012 – 31 July 2013*

The post is intended for a journalist distinguished in his/her own 
field, who will be expected to impart such knowledge and experience. The 
visiting professor of journalism is now to be appointed for the sixth 
time. The purpose of this professorial post is to bring practical 
working life and university education and research closer together. 
Familiarity with the field and its research will be considered an advantage.

The University of Tampere is a culturally-committed higher education 
institution. The profile of the University of Tampere accentuates the 
university’s multifaceted research and education on society and health. 
The University of Tampere has approximately 15,000 students and 2,200 
employees. Based on its strategy, the University of Tampere is renewing 
comprehensively its education and will increase opportunities for 
internationalization and research.

At the beginning of 2011 the School of Communication Media and Theatre 
(CMT) was established at the University as one of its nine Schools; it 
continues the traditions of its forerunner the Department of Journalism 
and Mass Communication. The CMT is the leading centre for journalism 
education in Finland. The School and its forerunners have engaged in 
journalistic education since 1925. The School offers lower (bachelor’s) 
and higher (master’s, licentiate’s and doctor’s) degrees in social 
sciences, the humanities and theatre art. Teaching is also offered in 
three more major subjects, speech communication, theatre and drama, and
