We are delighted to open the call for proposals for the Transatlantic Confe=

Description

The purpose of this conference is to bring together researchers from North-=
America and Europe in order to exchange the latest findings and insights co=
ncerning transparency and open government. This transatlantic conference on=
transparency research follows up on the 1st Global Conference on Transpare=
ncy Research which was held in Newark (NJ) in May 2011. We explicitly aim t=
o bring together scholars from various disciplines such as public administr=
ation, law, political science, journalism, sociology, etc.

The conference aims to bring together leading scholars from both North-Amer=
ica and Europe to collectively advance our understanding of the impact and =
implications of transparency policies. Topics to be included are studies of=
policies on access to information held by and about governments, investiga=
tions of transparency relationships between government entities and theoret=
ical, normative and empirical analyses of access to information held by gov=
ernment about individuals. Papers are invited on any of the above issues.

Possible topics include:

Open government and open data
ICTs and transparency
Proactive disclosure
Costs and benefits of transparency
Transparency and trust (or legitimacy)
Civil society and transparency
International organizations (e.g. the EU) and transparency
Transparency and regulation
Legal frameworks for transparency
Surveillance and transparency
Normative reflections: transparency and its discontents
Reduction of corruption through transparency
Transparency and participation
Freedom of information
Conceptual underpinnings of transparency
Measuring transparency

This list is meant to be illustrative and we look forward to receiving othe=
r relevant paper proposals.

theory and practice. The program committee also welcomes conceptual propos=
als without qualitative or quantitative empirical components that develop a=
 theory or theoretical framework.

Proposals from individuals at all stages of their career are welcome. The =
conference committee will review all proposals and will make the final deci=
sions on the acceptance or rejection of individual proposals. The proposal=
