The media studies program at the American University of Beirut (AUB) 
seeks a media educator at the level of Assistant/Associate/Full 
Professor. The position is to begin September 15, 2012. Appointment is 
for an initial period of four years.

AUB has a growing media studies program that currently offers an MA in 
Media Studies, an undergraduate Diploma in Media Communication, and an 
undergraduate Minor in Communication. The MA in Media Studies offers 
broad-based multidisciplinary liberal arts curriculum grounded in the 
social sciences. The undergraduate program offers a generalist 
curriculum and includes a mix of conceptual and practical courses. For

The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and 
graduate media studies courses, supervise graduate students working on 
theses, advise undergraduate students, develop courses, conduct 
scholarly research, participate in academic conferences, and perform 
administrative services to the department, faculty and university.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in media studies, communication, mass 
communication, anthropology, sociology, or a related field focused on 
media studies. They should also have: 1) the ability to contribute to 
the program's focus on Arab media research and theory and on the 
critical approach to the role of media in society; 2) demonstrated 
success as a university teacher, particularly in aligning a close 
interplay between the applied and conceptual elements germane to media 
studies; and 3) evidence of research productivity. Prior professional 
experience working as a media professional is desirable. 
Interdisciplinary experience or interest is a plus, especially in the 
social sciences. Fluency in Arabic is highly desirable.
