*Job Description*

*Purpose / Objectives*

You will undertake teaching and curriculum development within the
Journalism department in the context of the School of Humanities in the
Faculty of Arts, Design and Technology. You will be joining a lively and
creative team, to bring in and help run a fast developing programme of
multi platform journalism.
We are seeking to appoint someone with a wide-ranging knowledge of
journalism and considerable current experience as a practising
journalist. A profile in TV or online Journalism, Reportage or Feature
Journalism would be an advantage. More specific expertise is desirable
in such areas as news websites, television news, international
journalism and/or Journalism History.
You will have excellent organisational skills and be interested in
working across traditional discipline boundaries. You will be
responsible for teaching and student learning and support on a range of
modules, initially at undergraduate level. Experience in curriculum
development would be an advantage. You will have the opportunity to
contribute to the research and/or publications profile of the team and
to develop professional links and enterprise initiatives.

*Principal Accountabilities*

1. To undertake teaching and related administrative work within the
agreed curriculum at undergraduate, postgraduate and pre-degree levels.
2. To undertake curriculum development in the programme area and in the
wider context .
3. To undertake relevant research or professional practice to underpin
the curriculum.
4. To undertake module leadership responsibilities for modules specified
by the programme leader and Subject Manager.
5. To undertake a programme administrative role.
6. To undertake administrative activities as required by the Subject
Manager and Head of School.
7. Attendance at programme, subject group and School meetings
8. To contribute towards the strategic directions of the programme area,
subject group, School and Faculty.
9. Membership of School, Faculty or University committees, as appropriate.
10. Organisation of extra-curricular activities, as appropriate.

Short listing will be carried out by assessing suitability against the
criteria set out in the person specification, as far as it is reasonable
to do so before interview.

*Qualifications*

· Honours degree in Journalism or a cognate discipline in the Humanities
or Social Sciences - Essential

· MA or research qualification - Desirable

· Teaching Qualification (Higher Education) - Desirable

· Member of Professional Association - Essential

Staff appointed to a teaching post should hold a suitable teaching
qualification or have relevant, recent teaching experience. This will
normally be interpreted as having at least two years teaching experience
in further or higher education. The expectation will be that the
individual will be (or will become) a fellow of the Higher Education
Academy (HEA) or has gained (or is working towards) an award from the
HEA accredited course or some other recognised teaching award acceptable
to the University. You will be expected to commence this programme
within your first year of appointment and successfully complete within
18 months of starting the programme.
