Fully-funded PhD studentship

THE MEDIA SCHOOL, BOURNEMOUTH UNIVERSITY

Applications are currently invited for a fully-funded PhD scholarship based in the Media School, Bournemouth University (UK).

“News, The Internet And Political Protest: Al-Jazeera, BBC And Reuters Reporting Of The Arab Spring And Its Aftermath”

This project revolves around a comparative study into online reporting of the 2011 popular protests and their aftermath across Northern Africa and the Middle-East. Focussing on three global news organisations (Al-Jazeera, BBC and Reuters), this thesis will examine the extent to which various forms of internet communication (websites, blogs, social networking) have helped to transform crisis reporting and fostered a rethinking of journalism's relationship with its audiences. In taking a comparative approach, this thesis will investigate how emergent forms of internet use are reinflected in different global journalistic contexts.

PhD Supervisor: Dr Einar Thorsen
Co-Supervisors: Mr Stephen Jukes and Prof Stuart Allan
