*Position Overview*

Applications are invited for a full-time, ongoing lectureship in the Media Studies programme of the School of English and Media Studies at Massey University (Wellington campus). The programme teaches courses in internal and distance learning modes (including online delivery), at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

The Media Studies undergraduate programme includes courses in film, television, popular culture, advertising, trauma and the media, visual culture, new media, stardom and celebrity, independent media, media ecology, and media practice. The graduate programme focuses on media theory and research methods, and has a strong research-based emphasis.

Applicants are expected to have a sound background in Media Studies or a related discipline, and to be able to teach introductory and other undergraduate courses, and in time to provide graduate courses and supervision of student research.

It would be an advantage for applicants to have research expertise and the ability to deliver courses in one or more of the following areas: new media and cyberculture, global media, visual culture, and advertising.

The successful applicant will have a PhD either completed or very near to completion at the time of application. Some university teaching experience and academic publication or other evidence of ongoing research activity will be expected.

Teaching/Supervision

1. Undertake undergraduate and postgraduate teaching as required.
2. Develop and maintain areas of curriculum appropriate to local needs but consistent with international standards.
3. Coordinate and administer courses effectively.
4. Supervise the research activities of undergraduate students and postgraduate students (including doctoral candidates) as required.
5. Undertake continuing professional development.

Research

1. Undertake an active, appropriate and viable personal research programme or participate in team-based research.
2. Publish papers in academic journals and/or larger scholarly works.
3. Present research and act as a discussant at academic conferences.
4. Generate research funding.
5. Maintain a personal PBRF (Performance Based Research Fund) Evidence Portfolio.

Service to the Community

1. Participate in community service activities that further advance the profession or field and which are consistent with the University's planning documents. 2. Assist the School to develop an environment which gives effect to the obligations of the Treaty of Waitangi.

University Responsibilities

1. Serve on University, College, and/or School committees and working parties. 2. Ensure the observance of University policy and codes of practice in all teaching, research, community service and administrative practices. 3. Contribute to the development of a School working environment of teamwork and cooperation.

Appropriate advanced qualification (preferably completed PhD).
