INTERNATIONAL PROJECT - CALL FOR COOPERATION PARTNERS
MEDIA COVERAGE OF
THE EU PRESIDENCY:
A COMPARATIVE STUDY
Effectively conducted the EU presidency can improve an image of the country
holding this position. This is particularly true for countries that hold the
chairmanship of the EU Council for the first time.
During the 6-month period of the presidency the country attracts the foreign
media attention, not only as a host of numerous meetings and events, but also
as an actor-in charge to define the major directions of the EU policy.
Therefore, that time could be spent on achieving political goals and building
the image of the important and effective EU member, as well as an attractive
for tourists and entrepreneurs country. In many cases, however, the internal
political events such as elections, political tensions, or controversies over
domestic issues seemed to took the whole air around the country.
International project„Media coverage of the EU presidency”
addresses scholars
and researchers from the European countries interested in following topics:
1.Media coverage of the EU-related topics
2.Media events as a PR instrument?
3.The role of the media in building the country's image
4.The position and image of the„new” EU members
5.The EU presidency: priorities, opportunities, and challenges
The project is sponsored by the Polish National Science Center.

INTERNATIONAL PROJECT - CALL FOR COOPERATION PARTNERS
SPORT MEDIA EVENTS:
European Football Championship 2012
Sport events such as Olympic Games and Football Championships attract the
attention of the huge international audience, especially television viewers.
Live coverage of the opening ceremonies, games, semi-finals and then, of
course, the finals can function as ritualistic media events, serving social
integration functions. Furthermore, since the events are covered by foreign
media and broadcast to foreign (international) audiences, they might be
considered as an opportunity to build a positive image of the hosting country.
In 2012, Poland and Ukraine will host UEFA European Football Championship
(EURO 2012). For both countries, the event seems to be a chance to improve
their recognition and attract tourists' and entrepreneurs' attention. The
event creates also an opportunity to study the international media coverage of
sport media event.
International project„Sport Media Events” addresses scholars and
researchers
interested in following topics:
1.Media coverage of the sport media events
2.Media events as a PR instrument?
3.The role of the media in building the country's image
4.The cultural, social and political aspects of the sport events
5.International sport events: opportunities, and challenges
The project is sponsored by the Polish National Science Center.
