CALL FOR PAPERS

International Joint Workshop on Immigrant Inclusion by e-Participation


November 2-3 2011, at the University of Helsinki, Finland

The aim of the workshop is to gather an up-to-date account on facts, =20
policies, technologies as well as research results on electronic and =20
web-based means of immigrant participation in the society, and to =20
discuss whether these means can contribute to the overall inclusion of =20
immigrants. The pronounced approach of the issue is bottom-up, =20
emphasizing immigrants=E2=80=99 own needs, initiatives, organizations as wel=
l =20
as their web competences and practices as the starting point of active =20
citizenship. We encourage not only academic communities but also =20
citizen groups, activists, NGOs and authorities to submit in order to =20
gain a holistic picture of the issue. Accordingly, the submissions may =20
take the form of position statements, white papers as well as =20
initiatives or research results.

Please submit an abstract of 200 words by August 1 2011 to email =20
(addressmauri.kaipainen /at/ sh.se)  with =E2=80=9CIIeP submission=E2=80=9D in the =
subject =20
field. On the basis of the review, the final submissions for the =20
international joint workshop will be invited before September 1 2011, =20
after which full papers are due to the date of the event itself.

The contributions will be published in the Publication series of the =20
Department of Social Research, Helsinki University and/or in the =20
context of the IIeP outcomes such as manuals and website. A selection =20
of the presented and further developed papers will be considered for =20
an anthology in an international journal with a referee practice.
