*_Professor in the rank of Lecturer (docent) (Tenure Track system) in the field of New Communication Technologies_*

The Faculty of Political and Social Sciences has a vacancy for a professorship, starting February 1, 2012. It concerns a full-time position as Professor in the rank of Lecturer (docent) (Tenure Track system) in the Department of Communication Sciences, charged with academic teaching (in Dutch), scientific research and carrying out scientific duties in the field of new communication technologies, more in particular the field of the social scientific aspects of ICT and new media*.*

*Profile*

· candidates should hold a PhD with a doctoral thesis, preferably in communication sciences and with a proven knowledge in the above mentioned fields or a degree recognized as equivalent; obtained after February 1 - 2005, but not later than February 1 – 2010.

· candidates are required to have research experience in the field of study concerned, proved by recent publications in national and international peer reviewed journals and books;

· having proved experience in international mobility, amongst others through participation in research programmes at research institutions not linked to the university where the highest degree was obtained, is recommended;

· candidates are required to possess the necessary didactic, organizational and communicative skills for teaching at an academic level;**

· having experience in supervising research and/or coaching Ph.D. students is recommended.**

The governing language at Ghent University is Dutch. However, persons who do not speak Dutch as a native language, are welcome to apply.

This is in the first instance a five-year temporary appointment in a Tenure Track system focussing primarily on research, with a teaching load limited to no more than 60 teaching hours per semester, on average over a period of 3 years. If the university board positively evaluates the performance of the person involved, the position may lead to a permanent position as senior lecturer, at which point the teaching load may be revised.

Applications must be sent in duplicate by registered letter to the Rector of the University of Ghent, Sint-Pietersnieuwstraat 25, B-9000 Ghent, Belgium, using the specific BOF Tenure Track application forms, together with an explanation of the main research assignment of the scientific research proposed by the candidate during the Tenure Track position. This “research plan” should comprise at least three and no more than five pages in English, together with an English summary on one page. Proofs of competency (e.g., copies of the applicant’s diplomas) should also be sent at this stage.

The application deadline is May 31 - 2011. Postage stamp on or before this date is regarded as evidence of timely submission.
