[ecrea] New Neapolitan Cinema – new book from Edinburgh University Press
Thu Mar 10 10:12:38 GMT 2011
I would like to draw your attention to the publication of / The New
Neapolitan Cinema/ - the first book in English to look at the
proliferation of filmmaking in Naples, Italy over the past two decades.
The book examines some fifty films by filmmakers such as Paolo
Sorrentino (/Le conseguenze dell’amore/ The Consequences of Love/),
Mario Martone (/L’amore molesto/) and Antonio Capuano (/Pianese Nunzio/
Sacred Silence/) and considers how this movement paved the way to the
international success of /Gomorra/.
In addition, it provides a theoretical discussion of the concept of
regional cinema and a detailed, empirical study of production,
distribution and exhibition that will be of interest to film scholars
working on European cinema and national cinemas around the world.
The book is the product of many years of research on the part of its
author, Alex Marlow-Mann, and is available in hardback from Edinburgh
University Press. For more details, visit:

‘This superbly researched volume provides a wealth of information on the
recent renaissance of filmmaking in Naples, considered in its broader
cultural context. Not only does the author build a persuasive analysis
of this body of films, but he also offers crucial insights into the
conditions of their production.’ (Áine O'Healy, Loyola Marymount University
