The Center for Global Communication Studies at the Annenberg School for Com=
munication, University of Pennsylvania and the Programme for Comparative Me=
dia Law and Policy at the University of Oxford (PCMLP) are pleased to annou=
nce the 13th annual Annenberg-Oxford Media Policy Summer Institute, to be h=
eld from July 4 - 15, 2011 at the University of Oxford.

The annual Summer Institute brings together young scholars and regulators t=
o discuss important recent trends in technology, international politics and=
 development and its influence on media policy.=A0 Students come from aroun=
d the world; countries represented at previous Summer Institutes include Jo=
rdan, Italy, Thailand, Kenya, China, Brazil, Egypt, Nigeria and Russia, amo=
ng others.=20

This year the Summer Institute will also focus on media governance and stra=
tegic communication in conflict and post-conflict environments including Su=
dan, Somalia and Bosnia.=A0 At the same time, the successful curriculum tha=
t has been the foundation of the Summer Institute over the years will conti=
nue, with sessions covering topics such as media and economic/social develo=
pment, freedom of information, internet regulation and convergence. Part of=
 the course will be devoted to new developments in comparative approaches t=
o regulation, looking at Ofcom in the UK and other agencies, including exam=
ples from the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

The seminar brings together a wide range of participants from around the gl=
obe and provides them with an environment in which significant policy issue=
s are seriously discussed. The richness of the experience comes from exposu=
re to a variety of speakers and from the discussions among participants the=
mselves.
