Current staff in the School have a range of research and teaching interests, including visual culture, gaming and virtual worlds, documentary and film making, live media events, theatre and performance, writing for digital media, screenwriting, film, and interactive media. The School has a thriving doctoral community researching across the range of disciplines it offers, and runs regular research seminar series for its postgraduate population and for staff.

The successful applicant will be expected to undertake research on the changing style and content of live televised news coverage in the US and/or the UK. The student will have access to an archive of live footage which includes the live coverage on American networks of the assassination of President Kennedy in 1963 and the live coverage on American network and cable channels of the events of 9/11. A training in the analysis of moving image material will be provided in the first year of the studentship if necessary.
