Call for Papers =96 Digital Games, Gamification, Pervasiveness of Play

Forthcoming Journal =ABG|A|M|E =96 Games as Art, Media, Entertainment=BB
presents its first Call for Papers: All of us, players.

With its first issue, =ABG|A|M|E=BB =96 The Italian Journal of Game Studies
=96 =A0invites its contributors to reflect on the process of diffusion of
the video game outside the spaces, times and contexts that
traditionally host this medium. This dynamic forces us to re-consider
and put into perspective the object of our research, placing it within
a wider media ecology. This process of diffusion seems to derive not
only from the radical mutation in interface design, but also from the
dispersion of a ludic paradigm, that turns 'traditional' media
products into games. From the gamification of geolocalization, to the
ludic sociability of Farmville we are witnessing an invasion of video
games into the times and spaces of everyday life. In the first issue
of G|A|M|E we propose this theme to scholars with different
backgrounds, so that each of them can test their instruments against
this process, its specificity and the challenges that this represents
for the field of game studies.

Proposed topics may include but are not limited to:
- Gaming interfaces and the search for user-friendliness
- Re-location, mobilisation and the evanescence of the device in video game=
s
- Rethinking video games historiography in the light of the rise of
casual gaming
- Changes and shifts in social discourses on gaming as a diffused practice
- Gamification, playfulness and the lusory attitude
