*Lectureship in Intercultural Communication (Cultural Studies)*

The Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Vaasa, Finland invites
applications for a Lectureship in Intercultural Communication for a one
year period (1.8.2011-31.7.2012) with a possibility of extension or a
permanent appointment from 2012 onwards. The lecturer sought for will be
responsible for work within the International Master’s Degree Programme
/Intercultural Studies in Communication and Administration. /

The programme* *is an interdisciplinary, research orientated master’s
degree programme within the fields of Intercultural Communication and
Public Management taught in English. Combining the humanities with
management theories the programme is particularly designed to serve the
needs of students working or planning to work in multicultural contexts,
either in international organisations or on the community level, for
example in teaching, counselling or administration. The theoretical
framework of the programme draws on Comparative Management Sciences,
Sociology, Cultural Anthropology, Communication, Semiotics, and Literary
Studies.

The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the teaching and
research efforts of the programme and the Faculty of Philosophy within
the broader area of Communication and Cultural Studies. Teaching
includes introductory and advance level (MA) courses as well as the
supervision of MA theses. Teaching will centre on Intercultural
Communication and Identity Theory. Experience in Semiotics, Media
Studies and/or Cultural Anthropology is an asset.

*Qualifications** *

    * Candidates must hold a PhD in a relevant discipline.
    * Candidates must have higher education teaching experience in the
      field (Certified qualification in higher education teaching is an
      advantage).
    * Candidates must demonstrate complete fluency in spoken and written
      English.

*Selection Criteria*

The successful candidate will be selected on the basis of his/her:

    * experience and record in teaching
    * research activity
    * demonstrated capacity to supervise independent academic work
    * demonstrated capacity to participate and take in initiative in
      curriculum and research programme development
