[ecrea] Symposium: Cine-Ethics - University of Kent

Mon May 16 08:51:24 GMT 2011

Cine-Ethics: A Symposium and Anthology on Ethics and Cinema

University of Kent at Canterbury, UK
GLT3, Wednesday, 15 June 2011

It can be argued that film studies has seen an “ethical turn” over the past decade, as emerging trends in film theory and criticism have shifted focus from cinema's ontological and epistemological domains to its ethical aspects. This symposium will visit the issues of ethics manifest in the films of Dziga Vertov, Jean Renoir, Oshima Nagisa, Michael Haneke and The Sopranos. The speakers will explore diverse methodologies such as the philosophy and criticism of Thomas Nagel, Henri Agel, Alain Badiou, and Carl Plantinga, alongside historical studies of discourse and distribution.

Schedule.
