Cine Sisters: Histories of Women Working in the Film and Television Industries
A Symposium hosted by the Cinema and Television History (CATH) Research Centre, De Montfort University and the School of Film and Television Studies, University of East Anglia
In association with the BECTU Oral History Project and the Women’s Film History Network UK/Ireland
18 July 2011 at the Women’s Library, Old Castle Street, London E1
This symposium follows the Inaugural conference of the Women’s Film History Network at the University of Sunderland this April and will supply historical context for the symposium on the current state of Women’s Employment in Film and Television to be held by Women in Film and Television (WiFT) at BAFTA in September. We are particularly interested in papers based on the oral history interviews recorded with members by BECTU which may be requested by researchers from the BFI. For more details, visit http:www.bectu.org.uk/advice-resources/history-project.
Members of the CATH Research Centre will present the results of a pilot study in preparing transcriptions of these interviews for internet dissemination and invite the involvement of other academics in taking the project forward.
200-300 word proposals for 20-minute papers at the symposium should be emailed to (cath /at/ dmu.ac.uk) by 9 June 2011.
Symposium papers may be submitted for publication in a special issue of the Journal of British Cinema and Television: 10:3, July 2013, ‘Women at Work in the Film and Television Industries, edited by Dr. Vicky Ball (University of Sunderland) and Dr. Melanie Bell (University of Newcastle).
