Call for Papers

Researching Young Lives: power, representation and the research process.

The Institute for the Study of Knowledge in Society (ISKS) and the Physical Education, Physical Activity and Youth Sport (PE-PAYS) Research Centre at the University of Limerick invite submissions for paper presentations for a one day interdisciplinary conference to be held on April 30th 2010 at the University of Limerick. Researchers from all disciplines who are engaged in research with young people are encouraged to submit proposals. We are particularly interested in submissions which:

ï?· Augment our understandings of young peopleâ??s realities, as mediated by class, race, gender, sexuality, disability and their multiple intersections.

ï?· Evidence the use of participatory and/or innovative methods in the field.

ï?· Explore ethical issues associated with conducting research with young people.

ï?· Acknowledge the potential for a more active role for young people in research.

ï?· Engage critically and reflexively with the responsibilities of representation in research with young people.

ï?· Document challenges encountered in the participatory research process.

ï?· Work collaboratively to enhance recognition of young peopleâ??s agency and expertise in their daily lives.

Confirmed Keynote Speakers

Professor Madeleine Leonard (Queens University Belfast)

Dr Hayley Fitzgerald (Leeds Metropolitan University)

Dr Anoop Nayak (University of Newcastle)
