Position Summary

The Vice-Chancellor?s Research/Senior Research Fellowship is fully funded, for 4 years by Research & Innovation Portfolio. The Research Fellow will be located within a School environment and working with research teams and partnerships in the School and the broader University.

During the four year appointment, the Research Fellow?s role is primarily to develop, engage in and lead high quality research projects that are aligned with the University?s research strengths. The Research Fellow will have an important research leadership role in embedding their research expertise into the life of the School, the research partnerships and networks and will be required to contribute to high-quality and productivity-driven research networks across RMIT with external local, national and global partners. RMIT Research Fellows will be expected to engage in high quality research projects, to apply for grants and to publish in high quality journals.

Key Accountabilities

?Provide strong research leadership to and management of research teams and projects in the designated research area to support the growth of research performance and profile.

?Support the University?s strategic and business research imperatives through the sustainable growth of external research funding and profile by engaging in, leading and managing high quality research projects as well as identifying, initiating and preparing funding applications for Category 1 ARC grants as well as client-oriented research/consultancy income.

?Through active participation in strategic planning and discussion , contribute to the development and application of plans to enhance the delivery of research outcomes and performance

?Undertake effective engagement with appropriate industries, governments and communities which will lead to productive collaborations with stakeholders both inside and outside RMIT, from the local to the global environments

?Develop and build collaboration, cohort and collegiality through active interactions and participation in events, forums, workshops in the School, College and broader research community of the University.


Key Selection Criteria

?Significant research and publication track record on a national and global level in a research area relevant to and consistent with RMIT University?s research strengths

?Evidence of capacity to apply successfully for grants and carry out complex collaborative projects

?Evidence of leadership in collaborative research teams, and proven experience in leading and working with research and/or innovation teams responsible for conducting research activities and projects, preferably within an interdisciplinary environment.

?Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to consult, interact and collaborate effectively within and external to the organization, with the ability to move across academic, government and industry constituencies and to negotiate agreed outcomes and targets, partnering with key stakeholders in order to achieve agreed goals.

?Proven project-management skills from planning through to implementation, including the ability to deliver against targets, timelines and budget.

?Proven ability to work co-operatively as a team-member, managing interdisciplinary and scholarly research and innovation programs in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
