The online essay forum "Transformations of the Public Sphere" has
launched a special feature on the occasion of the 20th Anniversary of
the Fall of the Wall on November 9, 2009, co-sponsored by the Social
Science Research Council (SSRC) and NYU's Institute for Public
Knowledge (IPK). The forum is interactive. Readers are invited to
submit comments. Recently, the forum also posted essays from the ICA
2009 mini-plenary on "Keywords: The Public Sphere, Public Culture and
Reasoned Public Choice" and essays on the relationship between

The essay forum is accompanied by the beta version of the Public
Sphere Guide, seeking to create a map of the fragmented
interdisciplinary field of study on the public sphere. This mapping
project serves as a research guide and teaching guide and as a
