Professor of Media Policy

To strengthen our research, innovation and consultancy activities in
media, we wish to appoint a Professor of Media Policy. The
post-holder will be expected to play a leading role in the School of
Media, Music and Performance's strategy for media research and
delivery, particularly in the area of contemporary digital media
policy, though additional interests in the history and development
of broadcasting and/or print journalism policy might be welcome.
She/he will need to work with colleagues across academic
disciplines, work with existing expertise within the School, and
contribute her/his own expertise as part of a successful research
strategy. She/he is expected to contribute to a successful research
grouping, including academic colleagues and research students, in
time to meet the challenges and seize the opportunities offered by
the development of MediaCity:UK. Applicants will be expected to have
a proven track record in research leadership, publication in leading
academic journals and in securing funding from Research Councils and
other external sources. Applicants should also have a proven ability
to establish and conduct collaborative research at international
level with both academic and industrial partners.
Director of Journalism Communication

The School of Media, Music and Performance is seeking a Director to
provide leadership and manage the Directorate of Journalism and
Communication, to start in January 2009. The newly-created
Directorate will be one of four Directorates within the new School
structure, and reflects the significant growth in journalism and
related programmes that has occurred, with further growth being planned

From January 2010, changes in the University's research management
structure mean that the School of Media, Music and Performance will
have direct responsibility for research in relevant discipline
areas. The Professor in Contemporary Music/Director of Music will
play a leading role, working with existing research expertise
across the School, in developing appropriate research activity in
Music, building upon the strong showing in RAE 2008. Although
research leadership and expertise in any area of contemporary
20th/21st century music would be welcomed, an interest in
interdisciplinary research and/or the impact of digital production
and dissemination might be an advantage. The ability to link
research to teaching and engagement activities will be important.

Performance wishes to appoint a Lecturer in Digital Media Production
to teach digital production on a range of existing programmes, to
contribute to the development of new programmes at both
undergraduate and postgraduate levels, as well as contribute to CPD
activities with local and regional media professionals and
organisations. Applicants will be expected to have significant
experience of production within a contemporary media environment,
and to be familiar with the practicalities and implications of
convergent working practices across a range of media platforms.
Lecturer in Online Journalism

The School of Media, Music and Performance wishes to appoint a
Lecturer in Online Journalism to teach on a range of existing
programmes, to contribute to the development of new programmes at
both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, as well as contribute to
CPD activities with local and regional journalism professionals and
organisations. In the first instance, the successful candidate would
be expected to teach across existing programmes. S/he will be
expected to contribute to engagement projects such as the Styal
project. Though they may come from a traditional broadcast or print
journalism background, applicants will be expected to have
significant experience of working in a convergent journalism
environment, and be able to teach both practical and theoretical
aspects of online journalism. An ability to support relevant work
experience for our students within the field of journalism would be
an advantage and the successful candidate will be expected to liaise
closely with a range of professional organisations.
Lecturer in Interactive Media

The School of Media, Music and Performance wishes to appoint a
Lecturer in Interactive Media to teach on a range of existing
programmes, to contribute to the development of new programmes at
both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, as well as contribute to
CPD activities with local and regional media professionals and
organisations. The successful applicant will be expected to
contribute to new undergraduate and postgraduate programmes
currently being developed or in planning. The ability to initiate
cross-School developments, working with colleagues from the Music
and Performance Directorates, would be a distinct advantage.
Applicants will be expected to have significant experience of
working within digital interactive environments, and be able to
teach both practical and theoretical aspects of multiplatform
interactive media. An ability to support relevant work experience
for our students within the field of interactive media would be an
advantage and the successful candidate will be expected to liaise
closely with a range of media/interactive media organisations.
Lecturer in New Media Technologies

In the first instance, the successful candidate would be expected to
teach on our existing BSc Media Technology and BSc Mobile and
Internet Television programmes. An ability to contribute to other
programmes such as the BSc Computer Video Games, BA Television
Radio, or BA Animation would be welcome. The successful applicant
will be expected to contribute to new undergraduate and postgraduate
programmes currently being developed or in planning. Applicants will
be expected to have significant experience of working with new
digital technologies within a contemporary media environment. In
addition to teaching the technology of digital media, the ability to
relate technical understanding of new media technologies to creative
content production is essential.
