*Funding opportunity for PhD students in Media, Politics and Communication*

The Centre for Media, Politics and Communication Research (CMPCR <https://www.nottingham.ac.uk/research/groups/cmpcr/index.aspx>) would like to invite expressions of interest from prospective PhD applicants interested in supervision within and membership of the centre, who are considering applying to the AHRC-funded Midlands4Cities Doctoral Training Partnership <https://www.midlands4cities.ac.uk/> (M4C).

M4C provides combined research expertise for the professional and personal development of the next generation of arts and humanities doctoral researchers. It delivers excellence in all aspects of research supervision and training and provides access to a wide range of facilities, cohort events and placement opportunities with regional, national and international partners in the cultural, creative and heritage sectors.  For 2025 entry Midlands4Cities Doctoral Training Partnership offers up to 87 fully funded PhD studentships for eligible students in arts and humanities through an open competition <https://www.midlands4cities.ac.uk/apply/> and 23 Collaborative Doctoral Awards (CDA) <https://www.midlands4cities.ac.uk/find-a-project/>. CDA projects provide diverse and unique project opportunities with national, regional and local partner organisations.

*The CMPCR is offering to work closely with up to three candidates on their applications for this prestigious and competitive funding award.*  We would like to invite prospective PhD applicants with proposals for research in media and communication (see below for further details of relevant research topics) to submit a two-page expression of interest *to **(cmpcr.uon /at/ gmail.com)* <mailto:(cmpcr.uon /at/ gmail.com)> by *Monday 18^th November*, along with a brief CV detailing academic attainment and relevant experience.

*About the CMPCR:*

The Centre for Media, Politics and Communication Research (CMPCR) is an interdisciplinary hub for research on mediated and digital communication, with a particular focus on political communication, discourse, rhetoric and disinformation. We are a new and growing centre, founded in 2023, with members in media and cultural studies, politics and international relations, English studies and beyond.  We host an annual public lecture on media and citizenship, interdisciplinary research seminars, and knowledge exchange activities with journalists and fact-checking and verification organisations.

We invite expressions of interest in the areas of:

  * news and journalism,
  * political communication,
  * digital media, culture and communication,
  * disinformation and verification

*Eligibility: *

Applicants must have a distinction in their MA or MSc, or be on course for a distinction with a strong academic record (first class undergraduate degree or equivalent), or excellence in a relevant career in media and communication with an indication of academic capabilities.

The AHRC-funded Midlands4Cities Doctoral Training Partnership <https://www.midlands4cities.ac.uk/> (M4C) is an AHRC-funded collaboration between the University of Birmingham, Birmingham City University, University of Warwick, Coventry University, De Montfort University, University of Leicester, Nottingham Trent University and The University of Nottingham. To be considered for funding, you need to meet the eligibility criteria as detailed within M4C and UKRI (UK Research and Innovation) guidelines. You must also have applied for a place to study at one of the eight M4C universities.
