The Department has research clusters in: screen cultures, gender and
sexuality, new film and media historiographies and the archive,
audio-visual environments and ecology, and non-fiction media that are
informed by collective interest in questions of identity, practice, uses
and decolonising the field. For this post, we invite applications from
researchers with specialisations in areas that complement our existing
strengths and in particular welcome expertise and interest in race as it
relates to film and media. We would especially encourage applications
from candidates whose work engages with professionals, community groups,
activist organisations and/or the public (through, for instance,
production studies, cultural policy, curation or archival practices). We
also encourage interdisciplinarity and welcome candidates who could
further develop our productive links with other Departments and Schools
at St Andrews.
The successful candidate will hold a doctorate in a relevant subject at
the time of appointment. They will be a scholar with a strong,
developing research profile and a commitment to delivering high quality
teaching within film studies. The successful candidate will be expected
to have a range of interests, to be active in research publications that
strengthen or complement those in the department and to be capable of
teaching the subject to undergraduate and taught postgraduate students
from a wide range of backgrounds.
For informal enquiries, we encourage those considering applying to
contact the Head of Department, Dr Lucy Fife Donaldson
((lfd2 /at/ st-andrews.ac.uk)) or the Head of the School of Philosophical,
Anthropological and Film Studies, Professor James Harris
((philhos /at/ st-andrews.ac.uk)).
We are fully committed to equality and diversity in our recruitment and
employment policies. We operate family-friendly hours for core meetings
and are happy to discuss flexible working arrangements for staff. We
also offer reasonable childcare costs for applicants invited to interview
Applications are particularly welcome from, people from the Black, Asian
and Minority Ethnic (BAME) community, and other protected
characteristics who are under-represented in academic posts at the
University.
*Closing Date: 13 January 2023*
Start Date: 1 August 2023 (or as soon as possible thereafter)
