The Opportunity

The Korean Studies program at Monash is one of the fastest-growing programs in The School of Languages, Literatures, Cultures, and Linguistics, and one of the leading Korean programs in Australasia. The program offers an undergraduate major and minor in Korean Studies, including four years of language units, and content units on Korean society, history, linguistics, and popular culture. Monash hosts the Monash University Korean Studies Research Hub, a vibrant world-class research community funded by the Academy of Korean Studies.

The Korean Studies program has a unique opportunity for a Lecturer to join a team dedicated to world-class research and innovative teaching and to take part in an exciting Korean Studies program supported by considerable external funding.

The Lecturer will be expected to coordinate and teach in the expanding undergraduate Korean Studies program at Monash University, engage in team teaching, develop new content units and participate in curriculum development. We are particularly interested in candidates capable of teaching Korean and Asian popular culture and who have a strong track record of research in these fields, but we welcome applications from other areas of Korean Studies. Candidates will need to be able to teach Korean language at all levels.

The Lecturer will undertake research supervision of graduate students, engage in original and innovative research, and participate in administrative tasks within the program and/or school. The role will require collaboration in research, team teaching, and curriculum development.

The successful applicant will have a doctoral qualification in Korean Studies or a related field and will have a strong track record in research and teaching. To be successful for this position, you will need to show evidence of your strong interest in interdisciplinary research and have native or near-native proficiency in English and Korean. You must also have previous experience in teaching Korean studies and Korean language at a tertiary level.

This role is a full-time position; however, flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.

At Monash University, we are committed to being a Child Safe organisation. This position at the University will require the incumbent to hold a valid Working with Children Check.
