Part Time Post-Doctoral Research Assistant – LGBTQ Refugees and Cultural
and Social Policy
Start date: 1^November 2020
End date: 28^February 2021

We are seeking a highly motivated Post-Doctoral Research Assistant to
work on a British Academy funded project entitled ‘Understanding LGBTQ
Refugees' and Asylum Seekers' Support Needs through Listening to
Autobiographical Storytelling’, to produce a report on Cultural and
Social policies.The successful candidate will independently review the
formative outputs of the project, placing into context an existing range
of research papers that have already been collated, alongside new
research on cultural and social policies that affect LGBTQ refugees.
The post holder will report to the Primary investigator on this project.
Their key role will be to assess LGBTQ refuge policies framing civil and
legal rights, exploring aspects of sexual identity; race; migration;
discrimination, oppression; integration; employment, training and
poverty, producing a 10,000-word academic report, complete with critical
literature review.
The successful candidate will hold a doctorate in a relevant subject
area such as in cultural or social policy, or a relevant discipline.
They will have experience of researching minority social identity issues
with regards to policy, and preferably will possess an understanding of
the issues that LGBTQ refugees face.Experience of producing academic
papers and written reports is required. They will have strong
organisational, communication and interpersonal skills along with the
ability to work independently and accurately to meet deadlines.
The successful candidate will be appointed on a casual basis as a Part
Time Hourly Paid (non-academic) Post-Doctoral Research Assistant and
offered work of 240 hours in total to be undertaken in the period
between November 2020 and February 2021 in accordance with the
requirements of the project. The pay rate for this Grade 6 appointment
is £17.65 per hour, which includes an element of holiday pay.

you will likely work remotely from the campus using your own IT
equipment, but will be given access to online resources, and will be
expected to regularly be in touch with the Principal Investigator
(Christopher Pullen) and Co-Investigator (Ieuan Franklin).
