Job announcement:
Professor in Global Media Industries 981355
The School of Communication and Culture invites applications for the
position of professor in the field of media industries in a global
perspective. The position is based at the Department of Media and
Journalism Studies, which is part of the School of Communication and
Culture at Aarhus University.
The appointment is tenured and begins on 1 January 2019, or as soon as
possible thereafter.
The position
Globalisation and digitalisation of contemporary societies have entailed
significant transformations in the media industry with significant
ramifications to the production, distribution and consumption of media
content. Part of this development has included the increasing importance
of global media industries within specific media markets with pertinent
implications for local, national, regional and transnational media
cultures. The Department of Media and Journalism Studies wishes to
strengthen its position within this research field, and is therefore
seeking to appoint a professor with a particular interest in examining
transformations in global media industries and their various
ramifications and implications.
The successful applicant is expected to continually develop theoretical
and methodological perspectives in media industry studies that reflect
new global and technological challenges to the media industry. The
successful applicant is also encouraged to attract internationally
acknowledged researchers both with and without project funding who can
take part in developing the field from various methodological and
theoretical perspectives.
Applicants are expected to present their strategy for how they will
contribute to the department’s research and education profile, including
the way in which their research is relevant in an international

and supervision, talent development and knowledge exchange.

global media industry perspective
-emerging modes of media policies and regulations across different
socio-political contexts
-media management and emerging business models in a global media
industries perspective
-trends in labour/craft conditions within creative and cultural industries.
The successful applicant is expected to take part in and lead major
externally financed research projects, and to be a driving force in the
development of new national and international research networks.
Teaching
The successful applicant is expected to collaborate with the
department’s researchers, contributing at a high international level to
course development in the field of media and/or journalism studies.
