[ecrea] Job Call: Rollins College Tenure Track, Strategic Communication

Tue Sep 19 09:10:16 GMT 2017

Hi all, please see our job call below (or here <http://jobs.rollins.edu/cw/en-us/job/492625/assistant-professor-strategic-communication>). While this says Strategic Communication, please note that critical approaches to PR, advertising, marketing, etc are all welcome as well as more traditional aspects of the field. We'd like people to be able to teach in both, but our department is largely focused on community, non profit, and social enterprise work. Thanks!

The Department of Communication at Rollins College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in strategic communication, beginning August 2018. Area of specialization is open, with a preference for candidates who can contribute expertise focusing on public relations, advertising, and integrated marketing communications, with additional specializations in global/intercultural communication and social engagement (e.g., service learning, PAR, social entrepreneurship).

Candidates who can contribute to our concentrations in public relations, organizational communication and leadership, and/or health communication are particularly encouraged to apply. Please see our department website at http://www.rollins.edu/communication <http://www.rollins.edu/communication>, as well as our Center for Leadership and Community Engagement (http://www.rollins.edu/leadership-community-engagement <http://www.rollins.edu/leadership-community-engagement>) and our Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship Hub (http://www.rollins.edu/social-innovation-and-entrepreneurship-hub <http://www.rollins.edu/social-innovation-and-entrepreneurship-hub>) for additional information.

The successful candidate will teach a regular load of six courses per year. This includes a range of courses for majors and non-majors in the candidate’s areas of interest, a survey course (COM100: Introduction to Communication Studies), a research methods course, and courses for the College general education (http://www.rollins.edu/rollins-foundations-liberal-arts <http://www.rollins.edu/rollins-foundations-liberal-arts>) and first-year experience (http://www.rollins.edu/residential-life-explorations/explorations/your-first-semester.html <http://www.rollins.edu/residential-life-explorations/explorations/your-first-semester.html>) programs. Course releases are granted in the first year and midcourse review year to facilitate the process towards tenure. Candidates should be able to contribute to the mission of the department, which emphasizes the creation of dynamic communicators who think critically and speak, listen, and write effectively.

A Ph.D. in communication at the time of appointment is preferred; A.B.D. considered. The successful candidate must be committed to excellent undergraduate teaching and maintain an active program of research and publication.

Through its mission to create global citizens, Rollins College is firmly committed to creating a just community that embraces diversity and inclusion; persons from historically under-represented minority groups are encouraged to apply. All candidates should be prepared to address (in the online application and throughout the interview process) their ability to contribute to and sustain a diverse and inclusive environment through teaching, scholarship, and service.

The Department of Communication is a highly collegial team that emphasizes innovative and quality teaching in small classes in both the traditional College of Liberal Arts and our evening Hamilton Holt School. Rollins College is a comprehensive, selective liberal arts college located on a campus consistently ranked as one of the most beautiful in the country (and is within proximity to two national parks and two coastlines). Located just north of Orlando, FL, a rapidly growing and diverse metropolitan community with a thriving economic and cultural scene and easy access to U.S. and international destinations, Rollins ranks number one among 121 Southern master’s-level universities in the annual rankings of “America’s Best Colleges,” released by U.S. News & World Report. We are committed to diversity and inclusion at all levels of the institution, including through benefits to same sex and domestic partners.
