The Department of Geography, Media and Communication is seeking a senior
lecturer in media and communication studies. The department includes
media and communication studies, film studies, human geography and
tourism studies. The department offers a number of undergraduate degree
programmes and also Master-level programmes.

Research in media and communication studies is pursued in two profile research groups in the departmental research environment Geomedia http://www.kau.se/geomedia/ and the research centre NODE (The Ander Centre for Research on News and Opinion in the Digital Era) http://www.kau.se/node/. Duties

Duties involve teaching in the degree programmes, single-subject courses, and, if applicable, contract courses. Teaching, supervision, examination, course convening and course development are standard duties along with active participation in disciplinary and departmental development regarding teaching and external cooperation. According to local agreement a senior lecturer has professional development time (20%) which can be used for research. This allocation of time can be extended through external funding.

Eligibility
A PhD in media and communication studies, or related area, is required
for this senior lectureship as are completed course in higher education
pedagogy, or equivalent qualifications, and demonstrated teaching skills. The course in higher education pedagogy may, by agreement, be completed within two years of employment as part of the professional development commitment.

Assessment criteria
Special weight is given to both broad and deep knowledge in media and
communication studies, or related areas such as information systems and
digital humanities since the duties involve teaching and supervising
students on many different courses at both undergraduate and Master¹s
levels. Special weight is also given to knowledge of computer aided,
digital methods for analysing media content and usage.

Considerable weight is given to a research profile with an emphasis on
digital media and data analysis and ability to teach courses on digital
cultures, social media and web production. Considerable weight is also
given to documented expert skills in quantitative research methods and
knowledge of the current methodological development regarding data
collection and analysis in digital environments (e.g. text analysis,
automated content analysis, data visualisation, network analysis and
digital ethnography).

Considerable weight is also given to experience of seeking and attracting research funding and membership in national and international research networks.

Weight is given to abilities to cooperate and to take initiatives.

Valuable qualifications are:

€ Experience of developing and leading activities
€ Experience of teaching at both undergraduate and Master¹s levels
€ International experience of teaching in both Swedish and English
€ Experience of course development and web based teaching
€ Experience of external cooperation

In the case of equal qualifications, priority is given to the applicant
who can teach in Swedish as this is mostly the language of instruction.

Terms of employment
This is a full-time, non-fixed-term position with starting date at the
earliest convenience. A probationary period may be required.
