*Main Duties:*

·To produce excellent research in line with the University’s REF strategy.

·To attract external funding for research activities and/or knowledge 
exchange activities.

·To enhance the research environment and reputation of the College.

·To contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching within the 
College.

·To act as a role model and give support to other researchers (including 
Doctoral students) in the College.

·To engage in a range of scholarly activities, including public 
engagement activities designed to advance the academic reputation of the 
College.

·To contribute to the development of the subject area both in terms of 
programmes of study and extra-curricula activities.

·To participate in promotional activities such as open days, clearing 
and school visits.

·To participate in activities of the College aimed at enhancing 
employability skills and student engagement.

·To carry out relevant managerial duties associated with academic posts, 
for example, duties in relation to student recruitment, induction, 
teaching and assessment.

*Role specific duties*

The appointee will be expected:

·To develop and expand their own research activities and to explore 
links with other research areas and research teams in the Department, 
the College and the University and the wider research environment.

·To develop their own portfolio of funded research and to participate in 
collaborative projects, engaging in research activities at a national 
and international level, and publishing research in appropriate contexts.

·To support and extend the continued development of teaching, 
undergraduate and postgraduate supervision, and research in Media & 
Communication.

·To specifically take on the role of Programme Director for a new taught 
postgraduate programme in Media Management.

·To teach on the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Media & 
Communication

·To make a significant contribution to the development of further 
modules / and or programmes and specifically to develop a new taught 
postgraduate programme in Media Management.

·To supervise undergraduate and taught postgraduate media and 
communication dissertations.

·To supervise postgraduate research students.

*Person Specification:*

*_Essential criteria_*

·A PhD in a relevant media and communication subject area

·A proven research publication record in an area of media theory 
commensurate with a Senior Lecturer

·An understanding of research funding mechanisms and processes

·Experience and success in developing applications for external funding 
for own or joint research

·Evidence of contributing to the discipline by giving research papers at 
conferences, workshops, seminars or equivalent

·Evidence of the ability to undertake successful teaching at all levels 
across the subject area of media and communication , as evidenced by 
high quality module feedback scores

·Experience of supervising undergraduate, postgraduate taught and 
postgraduate research students

·The ability to communicate the subject to an academic and student audience

·A commitment to a student-focused learning environment

·A commitment to continuous professional development
