Fri Oct 21 11:13:53 GMT 2016
The School of Film and Media Studies at Purchase College seeks to
appoint an Assistant Professor of Cinema Studies, beginning Fall 2017.
Preference will be given to scholars whose research works at the
intersection of cinema and media studies, with an emphasis on emerging
visual culture. The successful candidate will have the ability to teach
across the Cinema Studies curriculum, contribute to a proposed MFA in
Media Arts and Culture (teaching history and theory of media) as well as
to general education. Candidates should demonstrate commitment to
student learning, success, and liberal education.
The teaching load is five courses per year on a two-semester schedule,
including required courses that encompass the history, close analysis,
and theories of cinema. In addition, faculty sponsor 4-6 senior
projects, a college-wide requirement and signature feature of the
Purchase curriculum. Therefore, potential for publishing high quality
scholarly work and a passion for working closely with students on cinema
studies research are essential.
Qualifications: PhD in Cinema Studies or related field by the time of
appointment (August 2017), teaching experience, a record of scholarly
publication, and a strong research agenda.
