[ecrea] Senior Research Fellow job at the Reuters Institute, U of Oxford

The Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism (RISJ) in the
Department of Politics and International Relations (DPIR) at the
University of Oxford is seeking to appoint a senior research fellow to
help develop and lead the institute’s comparative research on the
intersection between digital media, news, and politics. The successful
applicant will progress and define a set of research projects within
this wider area, and lead the research, writing, and publication of this
work, while simultaneously collaborating with colleagues across the
institute and beyond to strengthen the institute’s ability to understand
current changes in journalism and news media.
With the RISJ Director of Research, the post-holder will play a
strategic role in developing of the research programme that advances the
institute’s understanding of the intersection between digital media,
news and politics. Further duties include generating new sources of
international research funding and partnerships for the institute,
including writing funding applications. The post-holder will also
deputise for the RISJ Director of Research when necessary.
The role will suit an internationally established academic who is eager
to commit to the RISJ mission of connecting rigorous research with
substantial issues and challenges faced by journalists and news media
around the world as well as able to engage with and liaise with
sponsors, stakeholders, professional journalists, media leaders, and
policymakers. The post holder will be expected to hold a PhD in a
substantive area of political or other social science including
journalism/media studies or data science, with significant
post-qualification research experience including a track record of
independent research in journalism studies and/or communication research
in high-quality peer-reviewed publications.
This is a full-time fixed term position for three years in the first
instance and is available to commence in the The Reuters Institute for
the Study of Journalism, Oxford, Norham Gardens, as soon as possible.
Suitable candidates able to secure a sabbatical or other leave from
their current employment are welcomed to apply.
