Assistant Professor in Media and Communications

Salary is competitive and not less than £50,891 per annum inclusive

Applications are invited from outstanding candidates in the field of 
media and communications. The successful candidate will join an 
established and successful department, on grade point average ranked 
first in the UK in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework.

Applicants should demonstrate research excellence and a commitment to 
critically assessing claims about ways to theorise and empirically 
research mediated relationships between media communications and 
information technologies and the social world.

We welcome applications from those with expertise that contributes to 
understanding the social, political, political economy and/or cultural 
dimensions of social and technological change in today’s complex 
mediated environment.

We in particular seek someone who works on communications issues at the 
intersection of data and society, with a specific interest in the 
social, political and political economy contexts of data production and 
analytics and/or the cultural aspects of data’s role within everyday 
life, who can contribute to the autumn 2015 launch of the new Data and 
Society stream within our MSc Media and Communications.

You will have completed a PhD in a relevant discipline by the post start 
date. You will also have a proven record of research published in key 
journals; or evidence that such a record is being developed.

You will also demonstrate the ability to teach on a range of courses 
currently on offer within the Department of Media & Communications and 
to contribute to areas not currently covered.
