Research European Film and Television - PhD Workshop

This one-day workshop will be an occasion for PhD Students at different 
stages in their research and from different institutions to gather and 
share ideas, methodologies and knowledge, in an informal but academic 
environment. There will be four panels of work-in-progress presentations 
by PhD students researching in different but related areas: from 
European heritage film to Scandinavian TV drama, from European film 
industry and policies to national identities in films and TV series. 
Mariana Liz (University of Leeds) will also be delivering a keynote 
lecture on ‘The ongoing significance of Euro-pudding’.

The panels will be followed by a series of expert-led training sessions 
on: (1) using statistics for film and television research, (2) 
interviewing industry professionals, and (3) developing the impact of 
research beyond the academy.

The event is being organised in partnership with the European historical 
drama in the digital age conference.

    * Georgina Berritta (University of York), Gender roles in Nordic 
Noir and its English language remakes
    * Verena von Eicken (University of York), Representations of German 
history and identity in Berlin School films
    * Nathan Townsend (University of York), Working Title Films: 
Hollywood’s European subsidiary
    * Maya Nedyalkova (University of Southampton), Selected aspects of 
the transnational Bulgarian film industry
    * Ilse Schooneknaep (Vrije Universiteit Brussel), European film 
policy and film funding
    * Roderik Smits (University of York), Global industry events: An 
historical account of sales markets in the film industry

Workshops on (1) using statistics for film and television research (Huw 
Jones, University of York), (2) interviewing industry professionals 
(Nathan Townsend and Roderik Smits, University of York), and (3) 
developing the impact of research beyond the academy (Paul Cooke, 
University of Leeds).
