Job opening for a Doctoral Student position
Department of Media Policy and Media Economics
University of Salzburg, Austria

The department of Media Policy and Media Economics (Prof. Dr. Josef Trappel) at the Institute of Communication Science, University of Salzburg, offers a Doctoral Student (PhD) position. The department is concerned with teaching and research in the field of economic and political structures of the media and their implications on public communication.

    * The position is open from March 1st, 2014
    * Four years term
    * 30 hours per week
* Tasks: elaboration of doctoral thesis within the research field of media policy and media economics; teaching students from year 3 of the term; assistance in research in the following areas: media structures in Austria, Europe and beyond, national and international media policy, media governance and alternative forms of media regulation, interrelations between media policy and media economics, structural implications of new (digital) technologies.
    * Participation in academic administration
    * Requirements: Master in Communication Studies or Political Sciences
* Additional assets: profound knowledge of and familiarity with academic literature on media policy, media structures, media economy and political communication; acquainted with methods of social sciences * Very good language command of English and German (or willingness to learn German in due course)
