MULTIPLE TEACHING FELLOWSHIPS IN SOCIAL AND DIGITAL MEDIA
and
ADMINISTRATIVE FACULTY IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY




THE SCHOOL OF COMMUNICATION AND INFORMATION at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, invites applications for several Teaching Fellow positions focusing on Digital Media and Social Media, and a Director of the undergraduate program in Information Technology and Informatics (ITI). We seek individuals who value a climate of cross-departmental collaboration and innovation in teaching and curricula.


THE ITI DIRECTOR will teach two courses each in fall and spring and have a calendar year appointment to administer the program which combines courses in technology skills, management, and social informatics to prepare students for leadership positions in the technology industry or in IT departments in organizations. Responsibilities include overseeing the ITI curriculum, recruiting and advising students, and conducting outreach within and outside of the School. The ITI Director works with the department chairperson to staff courses each term as well as works collaboratively with staff and faculty to provide high quality service to students while maintaining the integrity of the academic program. This will be a three-year non-tenure track appointment with the possibility of renewal. An ideal candidate for the position would have a demonstrated record of teaching excellence in an institution of higher education and five to ten years of experience in administration or managemen
t. A terminal degree is required with a Ph.D. preferred in a related discipline.


TEACHING FELLOWS will teach three courses each in fall and spring and have the option to teach two courses in summer. Candidates should be prepared to focus on instruction related to digital media and social media in courses across all undergraduate and masters programs in the School. Fellows will be appointed for one year with the possibility of a single additional year renewal. An ideal candidate for a Teaching Fellowship would have proven success as an instructor who embraces dynamic pedagogical approaches and creative integration of technology into the curriculum. Examples of attractive candidates would be those who recently earned a Ph.D. in a relevant field and may want to enter the tenure track in the near future, or those who have had successful careers in professions related to the school's curricula, have a graduate degree and teaching experience, and want to devote themselves to developing the next generation of practitioners.


Teaching Fellows and the ITI Director will participate fully in the intellectual life of the School of Communication and Information, a professional school on the New Brunswick campus of Rutgers University. The School includes 60 full-time faculty in Departments of Communication, Journalism and Media Studies, and Library and Information Science. Our four undergraduate, two masters, and one doctoral program span the areas of communication, journalism, media studies, new media, library and information science, information technology, and health communication and informatics. Recent areas of focus for the school include global media and democracy, social media interaction and collaborative design, health and wellness, and leadership, organizations, and policy. We embrace Rutgers' goals of diversification of its communities and programs and encourage applicants who would address these goals.
