The Department of Communication Studies at California State University, Northridge is pleased to announce two tenure-track faculty openings for 2011-2. The effective date of appointment for both positions is August 2011, and salary is dependent on rank and qualifications. All positions subject to budgetary approval.

Position 1:  Performance and Cultural Studies

Rank:  Assistant/Associate Professor

Qualifications: The Department of Communication Studies at California State University, Northridge seeks a qualified candidate to fulfill a tenure track position at the Assistant level or higher. The candidate must have the following qualifications: Demonstrated excellence in teaching and creative research in Performance Studies; demonstrated potential for scholarly activity resulting in publication or equivalent, and active participation in the discipline of Communication Studies. Ph.D. or equivalent is required. Additional ability to teach in Cultural Studies is required; Demonstrated experience or potential for community service learning and related social outreach programs in Performance Studies is also desirable. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to working with an ethnically and culturally diverse student population as well as an interest in community outreach. CSUN is a Learning Centered University. The successful candidate will be expected to join faculty and staff in a commitment to active learning, to the assessment of learning outcomes, and to multiple pathways that enable students to graduate. At time of appointment, the successful candidate, if not a U.S. citizen, must have authorization from the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services to work in the United States. Evidence of degree(s) required at time of hire.

Responsibilities: Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Performance Studies and co-facilitate the extracurricular Performance Ensemble program, which produces public performances for campus and community audiences. Teach in secondary areas as needed and as qualifications permit; advise and mentor students; develop curriculum in area of specialization; engage in a systematic program of scholarship resulting in dissemination of that work; serve on department, college, and university committees. Participate in the department?s commitment to service learning and community-based partnerships.

Application Deadline: Screening of applications will begin on February 15, 2011; priority will be given to applications received by that time. Applicants must include a letter of application, curriculum vitae, and evidence of teaching effectiveness. Interviewees will be required to provide three current letters of reference. Open until filled.


Position 2: Communication Studies (Rhetorical Studies, Cultural Studies, and/or Communication and Technology)

Rank:  Assistant/Associate Professor

Qualifications: The Department of Communication Studies at California State University, Northridge seeks a qualified candidate to fulfill a tenure track position at the Assistant level or higher. The candidate must have the following qualifications: Demonstrated excellence in teaching and scholarship in one or more of the following specific areas of the field: Rhetorical Studies, Cultural Studies, and Communication and Technology; established record of published scholarly research; and active participation in the discipline of Communication Studies. Ph.D. or equivalent is required. Desirable qualifications include an active and ongoing program of scholarship that has earned recognition in the discipline and a passion for teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels as well as a commitment to supporting colleagues? intellectual and professional development.
