ASSISTANT PROFESSOR
The Film Studies Department at the University of
North Carolina Wilmington seeks a tenure-track
Assistant Professor, starting in August 2010,
with expertise in World Cinema and/or Avant-Garde Cinema.
Qualifications: Candidates should possess a PhD
in film studies or a related discipline. ABD
will be considered; however, PhD must be
obtained within the first academic year of
employment. Strong preference will be given to
candidates with a PhD in film studies awarded
prior to August 2010. Candidates must be able to
teach introductory and advanced courses in film
studies and demonstrate potential for excellent
teaching and scholarly productivity.
One of the premiere departments at UNCW, Film
Studies incorporates courses in cinema studies
and film production and is planning graduate
programs in both areas. The historic coastal
resort city of Wilmington is home to EUE Screen
Gems Studios, the largest motion picture
facility east of California, and the department
has a vibrant working relationship with both the
studio and area filmmaking professionals. Film
festivals, visiting scholars and filmmakers, and
an assortment of independent and international
film screenings are a community staple. For
eleven consecutive years, U. S. News & World
Report has ranked UNCW as one of the top ten
public master?s universities in the South.
