The Humanities and Media and Cultural Studies Department at
Macalester
College invites applications for a tenure track position in the theory and
practice of New Media, beginning in September, 2009. Rank is open. A
vibrant interdisciplinary department with a commitment to multiculturalism
and civic engagement, HMCS is organized around the close analysis of
cultural texts and their relationship to social power, using methods
developed in the global field of cultural studies.
Successful candidates will be effective teachers and scholars in the
criticism, history, theory, and production of cultural texts within a
digital environment. We seek a colleague who will engage issues of
economic,
institutional, political, and social power, and of differences of gender,
race, and sexualities, in the production and reception of new media texts.
Strong production skills in video production and/or web design are also
required. Candidates trained in any field within the humanities, fine
arts
or social sciences, including (but not limited to) anthropology,
communication, cultural studies, history, literature, media studies,
sociology, and technology studies, are encouraged to apply. The position
will include opportunities to forge curricular links with other programs,
including (but not limited to) American Studies, Art, International
Studies,
and Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies (WGSS). Ph.D. or M.F.A. in
hand by
September 2009.
