Wed Apr 16 11:34:05 GMT 2025
CALL FOR CONFERENCE PAPERS + FESTIVAL SHORT FILMS
Event Title: *TIMES IN BETWEEN 2025 (Conference + Festival)*
*Conference Theme: *
Permeable Walls and Insurmountable Barriers
*Short Film Festival Theme: *
Walls and Barriers in the Re-Mediation from/of heterogeneous materials.
Date: *27-29 August 2025 *Location:* Trieste, Italy.*
*Submission Deadline: June 20, 2025.*
The Bournemouth Film School (BFS), Arts University Bournemouth, and the
Laboratory for Semiotics, Ethnosemiotics, Nonfictional Studies and
Audiovisuality (SENSA Lab), University College Cork, invite scholars,
researchers, screenwriters, filmmakers, and artists to participate in
the joint Conference-Festival entitled:
*Times In-Between 2025*
Permeable Walls and Insurmountable Barriers
to be held with the support and collaboration of the historical city of
Trieste (Italy) and the patronage of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region,
the British Association of Film, Television and Screen Studies, the
Screenwriting Research Network, and the Society of Authors. This event
combines an international conference with a film festival in the city
where the Iron Curtain descended, as Churchill proclaimed in 1946, and
was lifted in 1991, as where the Iron Curtain once pulsated now its
memory and traces are mixed with the rhythms and issues of new times!
Walls and barriers have taken on different names and connotations over
time, and if walls become permeable, other barriers remain
insurmountable. We invite scholars and artists to gather and discuss
permeable walls and insurmountable barriers as portrayed, contested, and
reflected upon in the essay film form and linked expressions.
The event is an important international showcase structured to combine a
conference and a festival of short films by auteurs worldwide. To the
benefit of all, the format is collaborative, collegial, and enables
the exchange of insights, research findings, and opinions on
relevant issues and works.
