CFP: Symposium on AI in Journalism
Date: 2 May 2025
Online Symposium by the Journalism Safety Research (JSRN) hosted at the
Centre for Freedom of the Media (CFOM)
The Journalism Safety Research Network (JSRN), hosted by the Centre for
Freedom of the Media (CFOM) in the School of Journalism, Media and
Communication at the University of Sheffield, is hosting an online
symposium to mark World Press Freedom Day 2025.
World Press Freedom Day highlights the fundamental principles of press
freedom and raises awareness around the world of the work that
journalists undertake and how we can defend them from attacks that they
face in the work that they do. This year’s World Press Freedom Day
focuses on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the future of journalism,
highlighting the critical challenges that are currently taking place at
the intersection of technology and media freedom.
The JSRN serves to facilitate the exchange of ideas, publications and
networking opportunities through conferences, seminars and workshops as
well as the development of research agendas and policy proposals. In
this online symposium, the JSRN is inviting presentations focusing on AI
and journalism including, but not limited to:
*
The transformative role of AI in journalism and content creation
*
The ethical challenges of AI in journalism
*
Issues concerning AI and mis/disinformation
*
How newsrooms are engaging with AI
The online symposium will provide a chance for academics and civil
society organisations to come together to discuss the future of
journalism. The symposium is aimed at understanding the issues that
journalists face and devising solutions as to how these issues can be
best tackled.
Please send abstracts of 250-300 words, including bio of ca. 100 words
