“Digital Communication and Sustainable Societies”, 29 September to 2
October*
The Digital Communication Leadership (DCLead) Consortium and the
Euromedia Research Group invite early-stage researchers (PhD and
advanced master's students) - to participate in the first DCLead
Salzburg School “Digital Communication and Sustainable Societies: Global
Perspectives for the Common Good”, organised by the _Department of
Communication Studies <https://www.kowi-salzburg.at/en/>_ of the
University of Salzburg. It will take place from September 29 to October
2, 2025, in Puchberg, Upper Austria.
The DCLead Salzburg School brings together researchers and practitioners
committed to leveraging communication and media technologies to foster
environmental sustainability, inclusiveness, and social well-being. The
school offers students the opportunity to discuss their projects with a
diverse range of experts, connect with like-minded peers from around the
world, and gain valuable research experience.
*The application deadline for our DCLead Salzburg School has been
extended to April 30. *This extension will allow more talented
individuals to join us for this PhD School (see application procedure
below).
*GENERAL INFORMATION*
We welcome researchers and academics seeking interdisciplinary
approaches to digital communication, technology, policy, or
communications practitioners aiming to develop ethical and sustainable
practices, and graduate students interested in addressing global
societal challenges through technology and communication.
The programme runs over four full working days and awards *5 ECTS*
credits. The working language is English. Therefore, a sufficient
understanding of and ability to express oneself in this language is
expected.
*LOCATION AND PROGRAMME*
The DCLead Salzburg School will take place from September 29 to October
2, 2025, in Puchberg, Upper Austria, approximately 2 hours and 30
minutes by train from Vienna Airport.
The programme will include:

Feedback sessions: you get detailed and constructive feedback on
your PhD or Master's project

A workshop on digital methods: you get to hone existing competencies
and discover new approaches
*
Keynotes and roundtables: you get insights into current scholarly
debates and tips on how to tackle life in academia
*
Social activities and cultural excursions
*PARTICIPATION FEE*
The participation fee is € 490 for applicants from strong currency
countries and € 250 for applicants from weak currency countries.* Any
country not included in this list is considered a low-currency country.
The fee covers:

Accommodation double room (+100€ for single room)

Excursions to Linz and Salzburg
*APPLICATION PROCEDURE*
The application deadline for the DCLead Salzburg School is *April 30, 2025*.
A maximum of 20 students will be offered a spot at the DCLead Salzburg
School. Applicants will be notified via email *by 13 May 2025.*
The application must include an abstract (3,000–6,000 characters), a
motivation letter (up to 5,000 characters), and the details of a
referee, including their email address. The referee will be contacted
directly and asked to complete a reference form.
