Call for abstracts: Women's Work in Public Relations Volume Two
Edited by Elizabeth Bridgen ((liz.bridgen /at/ bucks.ac.uk)), Bucks New
University, UK) and Professor Sarah Williams
((sarah.williams /at/ bucks.ac.uk)) Bucks New University, UK)
Building on the success of 'Women's Work in Public Relations'
https://bookstore.emerald.com/women-s-work-in-public-relations.html
(published by Emerald in 2024), we are delighted to announce a second
volume (due 2026). We are seeking both academic and practitioner chapter
authors who are interested in writing about this subject.
'Women's Work in Public Relations: Volume Two' will build on the
momentum created by the first book but will have a more pronounced focus
on writers from the global south and from marginalised industries and
practices anywhere in the world. Submissions from all countries and
public relations (PR) sectors are welcome.
As with the 2024 publication this book prioritises women's experience
and histories in the PR workplace worldwide. The experience of women's
everyday lives in PR roles across the world is often under-recorded and
this collection aims to use academic writing/research and practitioner
stories as a way to further highlight and understand the experience of
the working lives of women in PR across the world.
The aim of this book is to demonstrate and support the breadth and
range of feminist study on women's work in PR, taking a step (or more)
away from management-based writing on public relations and towards a
space where marginalised voices and the lived experiences of women at
all stages in their career are considered and foregrounded. It places
centre stage the experiences of those who are often written about less
frequently in public relations research. This can include (for instance)
practitioners from the global south, practitioners of colour, older
practitioners, freelancers, and those working in marginalised occupations.
This collection will feature around 12-16 academic essays (chapters) of
c. 4,000-10,000 words but within the format there would be room for some
shorter practitioner stories (c. 300-1,000 words each) which explore
practitioner personal experience and are written in the first person.
Timescale Deadline for abstracts: 31 May 2025. Please send to:
(WomensWorkinPR /at/ gmail.com)
- Academic authors: Please send an abstract of around 300 words
- Practitioner authors: Please send a 200-word summary of your proposed
practitioner story
Editor decision on abstracts - ongoing/August 2025
Completed chapters to be submitted to editors - January 2026
Publication - late 2026
Note i: New researchers and practitioners: Some coaching may be
available to new and early career researchers and practitioners who have
a strong idea for a chapter (in particular who are writing about
under-represented groups) but need help with their research methodology
(e.g. sample recruitment, data collection, data analysis). If this may
apply to you please add a note to your abstract explaining what help may
be needed.
Note ii: No payment from authors/APC is required.
Please direct any questions to (WomensWorkinPR /at/ gmail.com)
