The Journal of Amateur Cinema & Mediais the first academic journal dedicated to a wide-ranging and methodologically rigorous analysis of amateur cinema and media cultures. It is a peer-refereed scholarly journal acting as a robust platform for interdisciplinary scholarship and creative perspectives on the history and role of amateur cinema and media in shaping global cultures and communication.
The journal is published twice a year and serves as a forum for original research engaging with historical, technological, theoretical, geographical, archival, and practice-led research and curatorial frameworks, including user-generated media, VR and AI.
The journal actively encourages dialogues across pertinent media platforms and specific methodologies while aiming to periodically host guest-edited issues responding to urgent theoretical and methodological agendas.
As amateur media continues to reshape contemporary cultures, the journal welcomes work from established scholars with longstanding expertise in the field as well as from those bringing fresh perspectives to most urgent issues. This guarantees that the published scholarship is as inclusive, dialogic, and globally informed as the field demands.

Use of AIDisclosure of authors’ use of AI is required for peer review of and publication in this journal. The editors reserve the right to determine if AI-technology use is appropriate or permissible as regards a submitted manuscript or published article. For full details, see Intellect’s ‘Acceptable Use of Artificial Intelligence in Research and Publishing’: https://www.intellectbooks.com/asset/3294/intellect-ai-policy-for-editors-etc-version-1.2.pdf <https://www.intellectbooks.com/asset/3294/intellect-ai-policy-for-editors-etc-version-1.2.pdf>

Authors must declare any use of AI that assists in the critical
thinking or development of the argument or for any engagement with
others’ scholarship. If AI technologies are used in developing a
manuscript or the research it reports, its use must be described in
detail (its purpose, how it was used, how it shaped the argument,
analysis or conclusions, and how the use of AI content was reviewed
and verified by the authors). This use of AI should be disclosed to
the editors at the time of submission and in the body of the
manuscript in a ‘Methodology’ section. It is the author's
responsibility to verify that all texts are accurately cited.
*
Prohibited uses of AI include using it to create, alter or
manipulate original research data and results. AI technologies must
not be used for any function linked to the authorship of research
(i.e. any aspect of the content of the manuscript for which an
author can be reasonably held accountable).
*
AI support need not be declared if it was used for the purposes of
checking grammar, spelling and improving the readability of the
article. Translation tools may be used as well, but these should be
verified by the author and, if the author is not fluent in the
languages involved, by a person fluent in the source language and
target languages and who can verify the accuracy of the translation
beforesubmission. Citation tools such as Zotero may be used, but it
is the author's responsibility to verify the accuracy of all quotes,
page numbers and citations.
*
Peer review and editing: Reviewers and journal editors will not use
AI for any substantive review tasks when reading, reviewing or
editing submitted manuscripts.
