How do we turn content back into conversations? The fact that it has never been so easy to spread information only makes it harder to build meaningful discourse and affinities around it. It may be time to completely rethink our ecologies of publishing.

With that in mind, Public Knowledge offers a free online seminar series aimed at exploring publishing in the arts, academia, and popular culture. It asks how a wide range of publication platforms—from books to screenings, from exhibitions to gossip—both collaborate and compete to materialize knowledge, form communities, and produce (relatively) stable frameworks of interpretation.

The program is based on weekly presentations by specialists in the area. Guests include Stevphen Shukaitis, editor at Minor Compositions; Ana Rodríguez Navas, author of Ideal Talk, Deadly Talk: The Uses of Gossip in Caribbean Literature; Janneke Adema, principal investigator of Open Book Futures and the Community-led Open Publication Infrastructures for Monographs; Anna Anthropy, game developer and author of The Rise of the Videogame Zinesters; Lukas Brasiskis, curator of Film and Video at e-flux and editor of e-flux Film Notes; and Divina Prado & Vitor Cesar, respectively Editorial and Design coordinators at Tomie Ohtake Institute.

Sessions take place on Zoom every Wednesday, 10am ET, between October 21 and November 25. Participation is free. Find the full program and register for individual sessions at besidesthescreen.com/publicknowledge <http://besidesthescreen.com/publicknowledge>

Public Knowledge is hosted by Besides the Screen with the support of the Social Sciences & Humanities Research Council and Queen’s University Department of Film & Media. The program is curated by Gabriel Menotti with support from Habibi Wang.
