UNIVERSITY OF PORTO

Marking the fifty-fifth anniversary of the UNESCO World Heritage 
Convention, this conference strand examines how the meaning of heritage 
has expanded from monuments, artworks, landscapes and historic sites to 
encompass communities, tourism, media, cultural industries, local 
economies and digital culture. It asks how new technologies are 
transforming the heritage sector in multiple ways.
Particular attention is given to digital heritage, including digitized 
archives, virtual museums, databases, immersive environments, artificial 
intelligence, mapping technologies and new forms of media-based research.
The conference invites critical discussion of how these digital tools 
reshape access, authorship, memory, representation and institutional 
authority.
