Call for Papers: Videojogos 2026 - 16th International Conference on Videogame Sciences and Arts

Videojogos 2026 – 16th International Conference on Videogame Sciences and Arts will take place on 3-4 December 2026 at Universidade Lusófona – Centro Universitário de Lisboa, Portugal.

For over fifteen years, Videojogos has brought together researchers, developers, artists, educators, designers, students, and industry professionals to discuss the evolving role of games in society. The conference provides a multidisciplinary forum for presenting research, design practices, critical perspectives, and creative projects exploring games as technological, cultural, educational, artistic, and social phenomena.

Given the interdisciplinary scope of the conference and its focus on games as media, cultural, and social phenomena, contributions from Communication and Media Studies scholars are particularly welcome.

TOPICS

Submissions are welcomed across six broad areas:

    Game Technologies and Computational Methods, including game
    technologies and architectures, AI and machine learning in games,
    procedural content generation, game analytics and player modelling,
    VR/AR/MR, and computational methods for game research.

  *

    Human-Centred Computing and Play, including HCI, player and user
    experience, digital culture and interactive media, online gaming
    communities, streaming, esports, ethics of play, and critical
    perspectives on game technologies and platforms.

  *

    Game Design and Development, including game design methodologies,
    interaction design, participatory and co-design, user-centred
    approaches, independent game development, prototyping, game
    mechanics, adaptive experiences, and evaluation methods.

  *

    Games for Learning, Health, and Impact, including serious games,
    game-based learning, gamification, games for health and well-being,
    behaviour change, training and simulation, learning analytics,
    sustainability, and evaluation of game-based interventions.

  *

    Accessibility, Inclusion, and Responsible Design, including
    accessible game technologies, disability and digital play,
    neuroinclusive HCI, inclusive and universal design, assistive
    technologies, accessibility evaluation and user testing, narrative
    systems, and sound and audio technologies for games.

  *

    Art Games and Interactive Digital Systems, including experimental
    game technologies, creative applications of AI, virtual and
    immersive creative experiences, digitally augmented hybrid and
    tabletop experiences, multimodal interaction, and computational
    tools for creative game production.

SUBMISSION CATEGORIES

    Full Papers: 12-15 pages

  *

    Short Papers: 6-11 pages

  *

    Posters: following the Short Paper guidelines

IMPORTANT DATES

    Full Paper Submission Deadline: 1 October 2026

    Notification of Acceptance: 20 October 2026

  *

    Camera-Ready Submission: 2 November 2026

Submissions must follow the Springer instructions for authors and use the required templates.

PUBLICATION

Scientific contributions accepted for the conference will be published by Springer in a volume of Communications in Computer and Information Science (CCIS).

No payment from authors is required for publication of accepted scientific contributions.
