issue focuses on Anarchiving and Archival Asymmetry: Short Film in the 
Balkans and Eastern Europe.

Iluminace 1/2026 examines how fragmented archives, political change, and 
institutional neglect have shaped the visibility and preservation of 
short film heritage across the Balkans and Eastern Europe. Bringing 
together feminist, decolonial, and critical archival perspectives, the 
issue rethinks archives as contested sites of power and demonstrates how 
recovering overlooked audiovisual histories can expand film 
historiography and cultural memory beyond dominant national and 
patriarchal narratives.
