[Commlist] New book: Journalism in the Age of AI

Wed Jun 24 07:14:32 GMT 2026

New open-access book (Polity):
Journalism in the Age of AI

Seth C. Lewis (with Rodrigo Zamith and Tomás Dodds) is excited to share a new book — /Journalism in the Age of AI: From Acceleration to Reimagination/ (Polity).

The digital edition will be free with open access when it publishes in early August, and the opening chapter is available to read right now.

Although it centers on journalism, the book speaks to questions facing anyone living through the AI transition: where creative and intellectual labor is headed, how a handful of platforms are accumulating power over public knowledge, and what it means to learn, think, and stay informed when machines mediate so much of what we know.

Early readers have been generous. Charlie Beckett (Polis, LSE) calls it “a much-needed, calm, conceptual analysis of AI in contemporary journalism that cuts through the dystopian and utopian hype.”

You can get Chapter 1 now, and receive early access to the full book, by signing up at journalismandai.com

If the book might fit a course you're teaching this fall, just write to us ((book /at/ journalismandai.com)) and we’ll send everything early. The book is free for students, and at signup you can flag interest in teaching resources.
