City St George’s, University of London is continuing a strategic
expansion of its Media and Communications offerings and seeks to appoint
a *DEPUTY HEAD OF DEPARTMENT & PROFESSOR/READER/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF
MEDIA AND COMMUNICATIONS.*
The *Department of Media, Culture and Creative Industries* draws
together academic staff specialising in Advertising, Creative Writing,
Culture and Creative Industries, English, Marketing Communication, Media
Management, Media and Communications, Media Production, Public
Relations, Publishing and Strategic Communication. The department is

The successful applicant will have line management experience (or the
demonstrated ability to lead large teams). The principal purpose of the
post is to assist the Head of Department in providing effective
leadership and management of the department as well as in contributing
to day-to-day operation of the department.
In addition, the successful candidate will provide a leading role in
teaching (and, if applying for the Education and Research profile,
researching) in an area of media and communications that complements the
offerings of the department. Candidates should be able to teach and
design media and communications modules in a way that is
industry-focused and socially relevant. Although the precise area of
expertise is open, the successful candidate’s expertise should
complement and enhance the profile of the Department. Areas of the
department we currently seek to strengthen include (but are not limited
to): Media Industries, Digital Distribution and Platforms,
(non-journalistic) Media Ethics in the Age of AI, Media Audiences, Media
Psychology, Strategic and Marketing Communication, Media Economics,
Working with AI in Media and Communications, Digital Creativity (e.g.
VR/AR, gaming).
We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed teacher able to engage
and enthuse a diverse student body that includes international students
as well as students from widening participation backgrounds. We are also
looking for a new colleague who is a team player and willing to both
lead and collaborate to strengthen the undergraduate and postgraduate
Media and Communication courses and contribute to other programmes in
the department, including CPD, short courses and so on.
